Panama, officially the Republic of Panama (Spanish: República de Panamá; IPA[re'puβlika ðe pana'ma]), is the southernmost country of Central America. Situated on an isthmus, some categorize it as a transcontinental nation connecting the north and south part of America. It borders Costa Rica to the north-west, Colombia to the south-east, the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south.

The Dolphin Lodge San Blas Islands : Panama  By : Mazzy Love
Dolphin Island Lodge is located on Uaguitupo Island, a private Island directly across from the indigenous Kuna island community of Achutupo. Known locally as the Uaguinega Ecoresort, the name derives from the Kuna language, where Uagui means dolphin and Nega means house. Together, therefore, it means "The House of the Dolphin." During certain times of the year you can catch a sight of dolphins, and with some you luck you might be able to admire them.

The climate in Panama is tropical, humid, cloudy and hot, though temperatures do vary depending on the altitude. The rainy winter season or invierno begins sometime in April or May and usually lasts until December. Early in the rainy season, showers are most common every few days in the afternoon. As July grows closer, rain showers become longer and more frequent culminating in the month of November when it often rains much of the time. Verano or the summer season from December through April is marked by hotter temperatures, wind and lower humidity. Rain is much less common, usually isolated to a scattered light shower

Panamanians are known for being drawn to the beaches during the balmy summer months, so avoiding the major roadways in and around the city is advisable on Friday and Sunday afternoons.

The waterfall at Cerro Azul is just an hour away from Panama City and a favorite picnic destination when the heat of the summer becomes unbearable. Other high altitude and lower temperature destinations include Boquette, Cerro Punta and Volcan in the province of Chiriqui, as well as the bordering mountains of Rio Sereno and Volcan Baru.

Here are a few facts about specific areas in Panama:

    * Considered one of the wettest spots in the world, Portobelo on the Atlantic coast has been known to receive rainfall up to 260 days each year.

    * Boquete is known for its bajareque or constant light rain at some times of year. This is actually common in the upper elevations throughout the Chirique highlands of Boquete, Volcan and Cerro Punta.

    * Volcan is also known for having a tremendous amount of rainbows – there are more to be seen in a few days than most people are likely to see in a lifetime.
