Bora Bora French Polynesia

Bora Bora is an island in the Leeward group of the Society Islands of French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. The island, located about 230 kilometres (140 mi) northwest of Papeete, is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. In the center of the island are the remnants of an extinct volcano rising to two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, the highest point at 727 metres (2,385 ft).

A lush gem presided over by two towering peaks, Bora Bora makes quite a first impression. Admire turquoise lagoons from the perimeter road that traces its 19-mile circumference. There is a bounty of activities packed into this small space. Get your feet wet at the Lagoonarium, the Diving Center, the Coral Gardens or the Leopard Rays Trench. After an energetic day, contemplate these watery wonders from the lofty heights of 2300-foot Mount Otemanu or while strolling through palm-studded Matira Point.

“Sea Life... Up close!”

Bora Bora Lagoonarium

The Lagoonarium is well worth visiting for those who enjoy snorkelling. The people do well to look after you and explain the different fish, turtles, sharks and rays. You do not have to be a strong swimmer, just float on the water and let the gentle current take you through the various enclosures.

Bring your own snorkel gear if you've got them, but leave your fins back at the hotel. They don't let you wear the fins in the enclosures. Be sure to take your underwater camera!

Honeymooners and romantics from around the world have laid claim to this island where the castle-like Mount Otemanu pierces the sky. Lush tropical slopes and valleys blossom with hibiscus while palm-covered motus circle the lagoon like a delicate necklace. Perfect white-sand beaches give way to emerald waters where impossibly colored fish animate the coral gardens.

Simply said, the most beautiful island in the world.

    “Incredible Resort!!”

    Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

First and foremost I must start this review with the service at this resort. I have traveled all over the South Pacific and experienced many levels of service. The Four Seasons Bora Bora staff service is exemplary at every turn. Each employee we encountered spoke English and went out of their way to accommodate even the most unusual request. That being said, I shall begin my long review.

    Check In:
We were met at the airport and whisked away with our luggage on the private wooden yacht Heinoanoa. This is the most luxurious transfer boat in Bora Bora. Check in was smooth as silk and the golf cart ride to our Mountain View Overwater Bungalow efficient. We were able to get into our bungalow at 8:30 am as the resort is not busy yet. Only one-half of the bungalows are open at this writing. The rest will all be open by November 2008.

    Mountain View Overwater Bungalow:
If you are looking for true Tahitian ambience with five star amenities then this is the place.
Everything is teak with Tahitian framed artifacts throughout. There are up lights, sidelights, low lamplights, nightlights and lagoon lights into the water. Two flat screen televisions with English CNN, a choice of movies, and DVD’s at the front desk. A
menu is provided to choose your own snacks-drinks to fill the mini bar and they will restock at any time. There are dual separate sinks in the bathroom and a two person tub with opening shuttered doors and sliding glass doors that open onto the deck. I honestly felt as though I was taking a bubble bath outside! Absolutely incredible!!! My husband and I both fit in the tub together with room to swish around easily. Each room in the bungalow (bedroom, bath, and living room) has privacy doors. The living room is gigantic, large room safe, couch, writing desk, and bar area. Double sliding doors open to the shaded table and chairs. The King bed, (oh my) is ultra comfy, two separate closets, lots of additional storage, and an iPod docking station. Doors open up onto the deck where full lounge chairs await. These bungalows are pretty much perfect.

    Pool and Activities:
The horizon pool is huge with a direct Mt Otemanu view and an expansive beach. There are private Cabanas filled with pillows and a giant cushy cushion that covers the entire floor. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are at the pool and on the beach. The service at the pool was truly astounding. Every time I dried off with my towel the staff replaced it (I used four towels in two hours one afternoon!).

OTahiti water is complimentary around the pool. They served full lunch at the Beach bar or at tables on the sand. The fish sandwich is yummy! There is an activities bungalow on the beach for Jet Skis, Kayaks, snorkel equipment etc. There is a Kids for all Seasons Club that is separate from the public pool area and a Teen Club removed from the adult area with it’s own Chill Island and lagoon access. Grass tennis courts and volleyball are also available. The beach at Four Seasons stretches the length of the property and onward toward St Regis so it’s possible to go for a nice beach walk. There are fish here underwater and the lagoon here is crystal clear now. There isn’t any coral, but it’s easy to just pop out on an excursion for the best snorkeling anyway.

    Spa:

My personal favorite part of this property! Hubby and I had the Couples Aromatherapy massage. Simply put, it was heaven. The treatment rooms open to the reef and ocean. The sound of the open sea is mesmerizing. The men’s spa, pool, etc also face the reef and open ocean. The women’s spa faces the lagoon-Mt Otemanu and the Jacuzzi pool is hot with lots of buttons to keep you busy bubbling. There is a co-ed relaxation room and the entire spa is in a Pandanas grove. Peaceful and tranquil, this intimate spa is lovely.

    Restaurants:
We opted to have breakfast room service twice, quite speedy! The beach, lagoon and pool view Tere Nui restaurant for breakfast (we ate here the other mornings) is full buffet or ala
carte off the menu. We did both. A wide array of breakfast choices ie: cereal or cooked to order. We had full menu service lunch here as well and also at the Fare Hoa Beach Bar during our stay. They are currently alternating restaurants each day (beach bar & Tere Nui) at lunch for the next month, again, it is a full menu now. We went to the Sunset Bar at dusk each night for snacks and drinks before dinner and to enjoy the extraordinary view. The Arii Moana fine dining restaurant décor is fascinatingly Tahitian with a wide variety on the menu. We ate here only one night and had the lobster-scallop-caviar appetizer along with the tenderloin for me, and mahi for hubby. Excellent choices! The menu was extensive here, and the atmosphere oh so romantic. Room service dinner on our deck was great as well with a full menu of choices. There was a Polynesian buffet and dance show one night at Tere Nui restaurant. Seafood everywhere and so beautifully presented! Lobster stir fry cooked to order too! A true story: The woman at the table next to us knocked her wine glass over onto her plate. I swear the waiters swooped in and in three seconds everything was off the table in front of her, and then, within two minutes, her plate was replaced with Exactly what she originally had on it. She looked over at me, both our jaws dropped! Stunning service.

Our trip to the Four Seasons was literally heaven on earth.
